Pantal\u00f2, Fatt\u00f2, Verg\u00e0, and Garz\u00f2: The Marchigian Countryside Meets the Modern Office<\/b><\/h5>

In the old Marchigian sharecropping society, there was a word for every role. It wasn\u2019t just a system of work: it was a true <\/span>social hierarchy<\/b>, where everyone knew exactly their place. But if we look at these roles through a contemporary lens, they aren\u2019t so far from the structure of a modern company. And so, let\u2019s start with the introductions: <\/span>Pantal\u00f2, Verg\u00e0, Fatt\u00f2, and Garz\u00f2<\/a>!<\/b> From sharecropper to manager, from landowner to CEO: the names change, but <\/span>“those who command, command\u2026 and those who work, work!”<\/b><\/p>

Picture the corporate hierarchy: the CEO, the manager, the team leader, and the poor intern. Well, in the Marchigian sharecropping society, this structure existed <\/span>long ago<\/b>. Only the names were different, and everything happened in the fields, not in front of a computer. Here they are: <\/span>lu Pantal\u00f2, lu Verg\u00e0, lu Fatt\u00f2, and lu Garz\u00f2<\/b>. Roles were clear, dynamics crystal-clear, and spoiler: <\/span>those who command, command\u2026 and those who toil, toil!<\/b><\/p>

Lu PANTAL\u00d2 \u2013 The CEO and the \u201cCountry Noble\u201d<\/b><\/h5>

Lu Pantal\u00f2<\/b> was at the top of the pyramid, with a dual role: on one side, he could be the head sharecropper, the family reference managing the farmhouse; on the other, in higher hierarchies, he was the <\/span>landowner<\/b>, the country noble who \u201clent\u201d his land to the sharecroppers. Back then, he set the rules, managed the harvest, and at the end of the season collected most of the produce. He was recognizable because he was rarely seen, but when he arrived, everyone lined up.<\/span><\/p>

Today? He\u2019s the <\/span>CEO<\/b> of a modern company or a big entrepreneur, owning the means of production and making strategic decisions. He rarely gets his hands dirty (except for occasional \u201cfield visits\u201d), but without his approval, nothing moves. He\u2019s the one at meetings saying: <\/span>\u201cEverything under control, right guys?\u201d<\/span><\/i> while enjoying the view from a fine desk. <\/span>Signature trait<\/span><\/i>: Elegance and authority. No calluses, just words.<\/span><\/p>

Etymology<\/span><\/i>: “Pantal\u00f2” comes from “pantalone”, a character from Italian commedia dell\u2019arte and a symbol of power and authority.<\/span><\/p>

Lu VERG\u00c0 \u2013 The Manager, Between Control and Strategy<\/b><\/h5>

Right after lu Pantal\u00f2, here comes <\/span>lu Verg\u00e0<\/b>: the <\/span>organizational figure par excellence<\/b>, the right hand of power. He supervised the work in the fields, the \u201cconductor\u201d ensuring tasks and timing were respected. With a sharp eye and firm attitude, he watched over everything and everyone. If someone slowed down, he was there to get things back on track. The perfect supervisor: never tired, always \u201con it\u201d.<\/span><\/p>

Today, he\u2019s the <\/span>manager<\/b>, always with his agenda in hand and phone constantly buzzing, monitoring performance, updating spreadsheets, and sending emails like: <\/span>\u201cLet me know by tonight, thanks!\u201d<\/span><\/i> He delegates responsibilities, motivates (or scolds) the team, and always ends with: <\/span>\u201cIf it weren\u2019t for me\u2026\u201d<\/span><\/i> Signature trait<\/span><\/i>: Never satisfied at the end of the day.<\/span><\/p>

Etymology<\/span><\/i>: “Verg\u00e0” comes from <\/span>virga<\/span><\/i>, the rod symbolizing command and authority.<\/span><\/p>

Lu FATT\u00d2 \u2013 The Team Leader Who \u201cDoes and Organizes\u201d<\/b><\/h5>

The name says it all: <\/span>lu Fatt\u00f2<\/b> is the one who \u201cdoes,\u201d the practical coordinator working shoulder to shoulder with others, but with added authority. He knew the work inside out, set the pace for collective labor, and could make operational decisions when needed. Closer to the workers than the bosses, he was always \u201cin the middle\u201d of the work, but with his own authority. In short? <\/span>An operations manager<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>

Today, lu Fatt\u00f2 is the <\/span>team leader<\/b>, the bridge between managers and workers. He\u2019s caught in the middle: accountable to \u201chigher-ups\u201d while solving problems on the ground. He gets his hands dirty and, if something goes wrong, he faces it head-on saying: <\/span>\u201cDon\u2019t worry, I\u2019ll fix it!\u201d<\/span><\/i> Signature trait<\/span><\/i>: Never gives up. Complains, but solves.<\/span><\/p>

Etymology<\/span><\/i>: From “fattore,” meaning the manager of daily agricultural activities.<\/span><\/p>

Lu GARZ\u00d2 \u2013 The Tireless Worker<\/b><\/h5>

Finally, there\u2019s <\/span>lu Garz\u00f2<\/b>, the beating heart of the sharecropping system. He was the youngest worker, often underpaid and invisible, who kept the work going without complaining too much. <\/span>Without him, the land wouldn\u2019t be worked, and the harvest wouldn\u2019t arrive.<\/b> Always last in line but first to get things done, never taking credit, poor Garz\u00f2.<\/span><\/p>

Today? The Garz\u00f2 is <\/span>the multitasking employee, the laborer, the freelancer<\/b>, <\/span>the junior staff member,<\/b> the one who starts at dawn and finishes after everyone else. First to toil, last to get recognition. Head down, hands moving, he\u2019s the true engine of the \u201coperation.\u201d Because in the end, <\/span>without lu Garz\u00f2, lu Pantal\u00f2 is NOTHING.<\/b> Signature trait<\/span><\/i>: Works tirelessly, mutters under his breath.<\/span><\/p>
