Unlike the common stereotype that sees the people of Marche as closed and wary, the inhabitants of the region see themselves as sociable, warm, and fun. 89% of respondents declare a sense of belonging to their region, a feeling even stronger than feeling Italian (81%). The exception is the province of Pesaro and Urbino, where regional belonging is weaker (78%). Supporting this, some respondents from Pesaro admit, with some bitterness, to feeling more like “failed Romagnols.” The sense of belonging to Europe is weaker but still involves more than half of the sample, rising to 66% among students, the more educated, and those living in the larger cities of Marche. Sigma Consulting, in its latest Osom report, analyzes the sense of belonging of the people of Marche to their territory.
