The sagra (a term derived from the Latin adjective sacer, in the accusative sacrum, meaning “sacred”) is a local popular festival held annually, traditionally originating from a religious celebration, celebrated on the occasion of a consecration or to commemorate a saint (usually the patron saint), but also used to celebrate the harvest or promote a local food and wine product. During a sagra, the local fair, market, and various festivities generally take place.
