Io Sò, Tu Sì
There are words that tell the story of a territory. And then there are the rules that hold all those words together. This postcard is born from WhatYouSay by MarcheLove, a research project exploring language and local identity: not the classic postcard landscape, but a landscape of words, made of sounds, grammar structures and ways of speaking passed down through time.
The graphic is dedicated to the conjugation of the verb “èsse” (to be) in the Macerata–Fermo–Camerino dialect area:
Io sò
Tu sì
Issu/essa adè
Noatri semo
Voatri sete
Issi adè
A linguistic form that carries centuries of history and preserves traces of Latin, like the word adè, derived from adest. A small detail that makes these dialects a living and surprising cultural heritage.
