D(e)M4RCA – So Marchigià
How do you say “marchigiano”? It depends on where you come from, how you speak, and which hill you are looking at.
This postcard comes from WhatYouSay by MarcheLove, the research project on language and territorial identity: not the classic postcard landscape, but a landscape of words, made of accents, transformations and different ways of telling the same sense of belonging.
D(e)M4RCA collects all the possible versions of the word “marchigiano”:
Marchigià, Marchegià, Marchiggià, Marchescià, Marchigian, Marchigen, Marchizan, Marchizen.
Many pronunciations, one single root. Because in the Marche region, the way you say a word tells a story: the place you come from, the community you belong to, the differences and connections that cross the territory.
The graphic transforms this linguistic plurality into a collective visual story: a dynamic typography and a series of Marche characters become different voices of the same cultural landscape.
A small fragment of identity to send far away, gift to those who love the Marche, or keep as a symbol of belonging.
