In Civitanova Marche, a simple “Oh Fra!” is often enough. A greeting, a call, a question, a reaction, a way of connecting. A word that changes meaning depending on the tone, the moment and the person it is addressed to.

Li Pesciaroli, literally “the fish sellers” in Macerata dialect, is the nickname used for the people from coastal areas and especially those from Civitanova Marche. A name born from the historical relationship with the sea and fishing activities, transformed over time into a recognizable and affectionate symbol of identity.
Alongside this nickname comes “Oh Fra!”, one of the most characteristic expressions of contemporary Civitanovese speech: a word that can become a greeting, an exclamation, advice, gossip or simply a conversational filler. A sort of linguistic Swiss army knife, able to adapt to every situation.
