Before offices, meetings and video calls, the Marche countryside already had a perfectly organized chain of command.
Pantalò, Vergà, Fattò and Garzò are not just dialect words: they are the figures that made up the hierarchy of the sharecropping society, a system where every person had a precise and recognizable role.
This postcard is born from WhatYouSay by MarcheLove, a research project exploring language and local identity: not the classic postcard landscape, but a landscape of words, made of memory, work and cultural transformations.
Through these four characters, the graphic tells the story of a social structure belonging to Marche history that, seen today, surprisingly resembles many contemporary organizations: the one who decides, the one who controls, the one who organizes and the one who keeps everything moving.
A postcard mixing pop anthropology, material culture and Marche irony, reminding us that tools may change, but certain dynamics seem to travel through time.
Because in the end, yesterday as today:
