There are expressions that cannot be translated. They can only be lived. Eh Sci No is one of them: three words that bring together two opposites — yes and no, affirmation and negation, certainty and doubt — and somehow manage to make perfect sense.
Because in the Marche, even saying yes can require a no.
The meaning of Eh Sci No lies not only in the words, but above all in the tone. It can be an affirmation, a negation, irony, an exclamation, or simply the answer to a question that, apparently, never needed to be asked in the first place. It’s an answer, but also an attitude.
The sci affirms. The no denies. The eh holds it all together.
